Interview Pop Punk Band The Bottom Line

The Bottom Line pop punk band from Portsmouth, UK, formed in 2011 and the band just released their debut album "Role Models" which is available through Itunes, Amazon, Spotify. They just announced that they will be touring around Indonesia on June 2013.

I recently caught up with vocalist Callum Amies to talk a little bit about new album, future plans, and their upcoming Nushock Tour 2013 in Indonesia.

TTEC : You guys just released your debut album "Role Models", How was the response of this album so far.??

Callum : Its been a roller coaster for us! We kinda went into the studio without enough money to actually pay for it. which was pretty funny but now everything is paid for it incredible! we write these songs because we enjoy listening to them. and if other people get the same buzz that we do from listening to it then thats our jobs done in our eyes. some people have even messaged us saying that the record has really connected to them and helped them through tough times, it makes us want to give that experience to everyone.

TTEC : For those who haven't heard the album yet, what can they expect from it?

Callum : We've tried to give the record a vibe from kinda the late 2003 kinda era, theres a lot of old school pop punk built into a very modern album, which is exactly what we wanted, theres a lot of bands around now which our getting very similar to each other, and we know that we cant re-invent something thats been reinvent a thousand times, so the best thing to do is to go back to basics. just fast songs, jumpy songs, and songs about girls.

TTEC : What were your influences while writing the album?

Callum : pretty much everyone we grew up with, theres a large amount of LIT in there, we feel they were a hugely underrated band. also bands such as New Found Glory, Sum 41, Yellowcard, Pull The Pin, Patent Pending, Saves The Day, Blink 182 were also huge influences for us during the period of writing this record.

TTEC : you guys will be headlining Nushock Tour 2013 in Indonesia. have you known a bit of Indonesia, such as Culture, Indonesian music and other things.?

Callum : We are so stoked to be coming to Indonesia! like no matter how many times we say it it doesn't get any less awesome! we literally know nothing about the place, but everyone out there seems to be so much more appreciative about music and have a much better state of mind when it comes to bands. which is awesome! I've been told by friends that its a beautiful country and we love to go sight seeing! the fact we are able to play music there is the best feeling ever

TTEC : The tour kicks off 14th of June, which is getting closer, how are you feeling about it? what kind of preparations are you taking for this tour? will you have something special for Indonesia.?

Callum : we're both very nervous, as there is a lot to sort out still before the tour! not to mention we're doing a run of UK dates right before indonesia! which means we will spend 90% of the time on our bus making sure everything is ready for when we fly out! i think we will bring a lot of fun stuff to this tour! who knows, we might even play some unheard songs before?

TTEC : What is your favorite and least favorite thing about being on the road?

Callum : Our favourite is definitely just being in a touring environment, being on the road is the best time to bond with your best friends and be able to play shows every night for 2/3 weeks rather being stuck in a day job really kicks in hard when you nail a big show in front of a few hundred people. and having them come up to us after the show and telling us how much they enjoy our music really makes us happy

- Our LEAST favourite thing? there isn't many i can tell you that. we are probably one of the most laid back bands on the planet, we try to not let anything piss us off, i think i'd have to say the money though. we are 100% self funded so everything gets a little hard every now and then!

TTEC : Do you have any plans after finishing the tour?

Callum : we have about 2 weeks off getting back into the swing of things before we fly out to china for 3 weeks of shows and festivals! we're pretty excited about that too. we'll probably spend the rest of the time planning more shows back in the UK!

TTEC : Can we expect new music video anytime soon.?

Callum : YES!, yes you can! we all said once we get back from these tours that we will all sit down and sort out the coolest music video the world has ever seen, we don't want to do this half hearted. we wanna make it the best video pop punk has ever seen

TTEC : and favorite thing about being in a band.?

Callum : personally, i (Callum) would have to say the connection you make with people you've never met in your life. writing a song about a bad/good time you've had. and having a stranger come up to you and tell you that they have been through the exact same thing, and that they can really connect to me through my song is one the coolest things ill ever hear.

TTEC : And before we wrap up, a message to Indonesia..?

Callum : all we can say is that we're coming, and they're gonna KNOW ABOUT IT! we cant wait! Nushock tour 2013 is COMING!
